Birthday bash at the Bealey Spur

Birthday bash at the Bealey Spur

Yesterday was my 36th birthday. I can’t help but think of random events and “moments” in time as the calender hits July 10th each year. So here are just a few….I was a smoker for 15yrs and it has been 6 years since I quit, It is close to ten years since I moved from [...]

The 7in7 2010 challenge website is live!

The 7in7 2010 challenge website is live!

In recent months I’ve been busy working with a Kiwi ultra running Legend Malcolm Law to launch a re-designed website for the 2010 7in7 challenge. We had a fair bit to do with content transfer, website setup and of course “bug testing”. There was no point re-designing the wheel so we used the same template [...]

Melbourne trip 2010

Melbourne trip 2010

It’s massive. It’s busy. It’s very bright and buzzy. It’s Melbourne! Staying with family in a Suburb close to the CBD was a great way to be able to catch a tram into the city heart at will and with such amazing weather of 20ish and sun for 10 days- it was like a Kiwi [...]

A real gem of a day!

A real gem of a day!

Truth be known the past 8 weeks have been a very frustrating time for me with- family illness -broken ribs- Peroneal tendonitis in the right foot- and a right royal mess at work with contracts etc etc. I don’t cope with stress very well at all and having so many niggling and annoying life things” [...]

Lifes a beach

Lifes a beach

I headed off this afternoon on the scooter to have a bit of an explore of the beaches towards Taylors Mistake/ Godley Head. I’ve ridden many times into this secluded beach/ town from the Porthills, but In the 2.5yrs years that I’ve been here, I’ve never had a look around on foot. Dodging traffic on [...]

Toycamera Analogcolor

Toycamera Analogcolor

The retro Toycamera Analogcolor application (now say that 20 times I dare you!) is one heck of a sweet little toy for both mac and PC. With a click of a button it takes us all back to when cameras were analog and not so pixel perfect! With some cool presets and manual control too, [...]

Body Surfing…

Body Surfing…

What a sweet little collection of images this Aussie website has! I’ve never really been keen on surfing or the ocean since being scared shitless by the movie Jaws…but people can change right? Body surfing is free, simple and by the looks of it…..a heap of fun! If we ever get above 35degs this summer, [...]

Wellington Weekend

Wellington Weekend

Amy’s boss shouted air fare and accommodation for us back in October (better late than never to blog huh) to visit Wellington as a thank you for some recent projects that she had just competed. Nice eh. Flying into Wellington we could not believe how sketchy the landing was, but once on our feet it [...]

Anne Keller Photography

A bit of mountain biking, friends and the outdoors captured so nicely by Anne Keller. I absolutely love this girls work and the website is pretty well designed too. Very nice work that inspires me to get back into my outdoor photography for 2010.

My first ultra marathon distance of 49KM

My first ultra marathon distance of 49KM

After a nice weekend on the mountain bike where I rode a solo to Godley Head, this weeks training has felt much better than the last with a little more juice in the batteries.  Tuesday’s “lunchtime” run was a good one and I hit the road to Hagley Park and after several laps I was [...]

Port Hills Crater Rim 30KM trail run

Only a few more weeks now before I start to taper off for the Kepler & I’m really looking forward to it. Since last weekend I’ve clocked up about 75KM which, as you can imagine is a first for me!  The Mcleans 12hr mountain bike event last weekend found me racing flat out for 1.5hrs [...]

Snowboarding and climbing at Porters Pass

Porters Pass Climb

Spence and Ben headed off to snowboard and ski at Porters Pass in Arthur’s Pass yesterday so I tagged along. I had plans to do some walks so took a heavy pack and walking poles. Once we got there I discovered that I could hire some gear and do some snowboarding lessons so that was that! I opted for a 2 hr session with an instructor and small group. I had skied before when in my teens, but the boarding was something else! My arse now hates me :D (more…)

Wharfedale Trail Run

Trail Running

Jane and I headed to the Wharfedale track today and opted for the Saddle return or 3hrs- which ever came first. It felt odd being on foot as I’ve only ever been there on bike- but once warmed up the tracks gradient was very pleasant. There was snow along most parts towards the saddle and characteristically the track was wet, technical and slippy from the onset. Running at endurance pace (being able to talk comfortably) it was great to finally run with Jane socially and “talk ultra training” as we zipped up and through the wet rooty goodness. (more…)

Getting back out there…

Trail Running

Today was simply glorious and with a sunny and perfect day for exploring some trails in the Porthills- off I went. The original plan was to meet up with Jane- but she called early this morning and had to bail due to her legs not wanting to “play” today. Fair call too…..as we all know how it feels to have had a hard week on the dirt! Anyway, I scooted to the bottom of the Mount Vernon Track and headed upwards- walking a bit-running a bit- warming up nicely with a bit of a stretch here and there. With the recent rain which has been seemingly non stop for months- there were some magnificent mini falls and lots of running water. I’ve not been up this track for sometime and it was lush- but greasy as hell. (more…)

Refresh!! dammit!!

Bike addiction

Here we go again…at 6.00 am I set my two alarms (yeah two) to go sit in front of the computer. It was about zero degrees in the back study….and I was not impressed. For any of you who were also up at sparrows fart and tried to enter the Kepler Challenge (or Luxmore Grunt) you’ll know just how worryingly slow the site was this year. Infact, it was near impossible to get the website to refresh. I had Firefox open and ready to go. I had bookmarked the registrations site the night before and even swapped over to the newer modem without wireless. (more…)
