Suburu Dockland 12 hour & New Zealand

The weekend gone was a huge one. On Saturday I took part in the 2007 Melbourne 12hr Endurance race at Werribee and then flew to Christchurch, New Zealand the following morning :D.The race was spectacular and the group of friends I went with were chilled out to the max. With the sun shining magnificently all day, I rode solo again but for the first time this season I swapped my rigid Pace carbon forks for my suspension Reba forks.

On arrival my fears of weight vs comfort were gone as the whole place had medium sized rocks everywhere! and this was just the carpark! The trail was a 12km loop and it was honestly the most technical trail I’ve ridden in a long long time… it made Chase the Sun look like a play park. We all suffered on this very rocky and technical course with the lack of winter riding in our legs as we were punished by the numerous rocky sections. It was a total blast!! This ride hurt, but with spring/ summer season now showing its happy face- this ride was a great way to greet it :D Knowing that I had to be up for 4am the next morning I opted to ride just 5 laps (60km) during the first half of the day. As for riding a night lap- I gave it a miss- I did not want to risk injury the night before flying to NZ!

Christ Church New Zealand was great and we were blessed with some great weather. In our typical fashion, Amy and I flew into Christ Church and then looked for accommodation (this is an ongoing theme). Amazingly, we were at a Hotel “Elizas Manor on Bealey” within 30 minutes. Put simply, Eliza and the hotel were amazing! So with the sun on our faces Amy and Set out to explore Christchurch once more…. the majority of our trip was business based, but most afternoons we would walk through historic Christchurch and dine out. Come Tuesday afternoon- I had to sleep – so much so I crashed after breakfast and awoke late evening to eat again and then go back to sleep :D The weekend had obviously caught up with me!
