I’m a little burnt out
Wednesdays hill ride and then Thursdays night ride with a few peeps had a familiar feeling- burning lactic in the legs that would not shift regardless of what I did. Uncharacteristically I struggled up Rapaki…. but made up for it on the technical parts of the Traverse (leaving my riding buddies for smoke)… he he. Looking back over the past two weeks its easy to see how I’ve burnt my little legs out….. as I’ve been up in the hills for 10 days out of 14. Thursdays nights sleep was also characteristic of a little bit of burn out…. restless… hot sweats…. and the feeling of muscle rigidity throughout the night. Thankfully I know the signs so I’ll be off the bike until Tuesdays night ride. No stress though as I like cake, TV and video games :)
RIP Cateye Triple Shot Pros
My Cateye Tripleshot Pro light set which cost me $700+ AU died on Thursdays night ride. It was fully charged and tested before leaving the house to then just not turn on when I needed them. I’m a little bummed out to be honest as they cost an absolute fortune for little or next to no real performance…. and are about one year old with less than 50hrs use. Now this. Looking closer some condensation was visible in the on/off switch…which may have caused some issues?
Seriously folks donot buy these lights…. stick with Ayups or another brand. The sealing is shocking, they are heavy, they provide little light and they are un reliable. Thankfully the single Ayup I had on my helmet got me through on Thursday night and at least I have this set to get me through until Summer. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the Cateye though… maybe I’ll take it to a bike shop and check out if it has any warranty left… if not an electronics shop. Pissed. To top it off on Thursdays ride I got my third snake bite in less than a week descending the Rapaki…. I think I’ll also look at some beefier inner tubes this week too (or stop choosing rocky lines on a hardtail- NO!!!! :) )

Some new bits
In preparation of Spring/ Summer (yes its coming!) a new XT cassette and 2 XTR chains arrived this morning from Chain Reaction Cycles. Fantastic!! Once upon a time I’d have gone for XTR, but with just a 30g difference and not being rich anymore…XT is now my stable mountain biking diet when it comes to drive train. With some severe chain slippage of late in the lower gears on the cove, I’m looking forward to getting it running smooth again.

Lynskey warranty – an update
Well, it has been at least 12 weeks since the frame was sent for warranty and hopefully it should arrive this week. Yes it was a pain emailing photos backwards and forwards to the NZ distributor- yes it was a pain having to negotiate a replacement when they deemed the crack in the chain stay as cosmetic (when you have paid $4000+ I think NOT) and yes it is a pain being told a delivery date and still having to wait.
BUT Lynskey have replaced it for a new one and the NZ importer has been fantastic throughout. So I’m very happy. It could have been worse too… I could have had to deal with the idiots at Trickbits Australia (whom I originally purchased the frame off) who have to be the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with since riding bikes. Or Lynskey could have told me to get fugged :) Fingers crossed I get the frame this week and get out on it for the weekend. I have missed riding this bike soooo much!

Summer
Hurry up!! :) Don’t get me wrong, riding the trails here in Christchurch are fantastic. But I’m getting bored with it….. I cannot remember the last time I have ridden anything other than the Rapaki and Traverse or road in the hill… and the Bottlelake/ Mcleans tracks are starting to become to familiar. It has only really been a few months of the really terrible weather and I do try to keep it in perspective to say the UK :). BUT I’m an addict who likes to mix up his drug of choice and I need a big fuckoff huge hit of fast dry and rocky singletrack on some mountain side AWAY from Christchurch. So stop posting all of your dry summer trail photos, videos and tanned limbs on MTBR you American bas*ards and let me have some of that heat and hard-packed, dust-filled, and riding until sunset awesomeness-ness (yes I’ve drooled on my keyboard). You have had enough over there already!! ;)
Yeah.. like this.
I think its on its way though… look… I saw blue sky on the weekend!!

Summer. Hurry. Please.
