Mountain Monk – hike up and ride down!

Now this is quite interesting! Imagine being able to carry a bike in a back pack up the mountain and then ride down in style (well maybe in not that much style :D). *enters a dude dressed as a monk on a bright orange mini MTB* from www.bergmoench.com

The Mountain Monk concept works (if you can understand the dodgy German to English translation) on the idea that hikers can go out of bounds with no limits to then cruise back into valleys etc. With no seat, the problem of acheing limbs is minimised using the body of the bike as a knee rest if required. With no seat, proper pedals or gears…. this maybe useful for getting back down quickly at the end of a long climb and looks like a lot of fun. The first thing I thought when I saw this was Craigieburn… and how much fun that would have been hiking up and free wheeling the scree back down!

Weighing in at 9.5KG with XT parts, and some suspension it’s not bad at all is it?

The concept is pretty awesome. The bike is a wacky but I couldn’t imagine hiking up with a Santa Cruz Nomad strapped to my back.

It is a cool idea isn’t it? I suppose it’s not really a bike as such rather a scooter to help you get down quicker :D

    I’d love one!
