We have had a long weekend in New Zealand last weekend known as the Queens birthday weekend, and we all decided to take a trip down to Rotorua (us locals call it RotoVegas – Long Story). The forecast was not great at all for the weekend, and Saturday was wet most of the day with a massive down pour overnight.
For Saturday we decided to concentrate on DH, and do some shuttles. I’ve not done the National DH course before (the Taniwha track), and I took the Nicolai ION ST and Nicolai Helius FR with me. It was great to be back on the ION ST, this bike is a freak of nature and once it picks up speed the handling is just awesome. It saved my butt so many times…. The track was very wet and slippery, but I had loads of fun riding it. I didn’t get any action shots as it was dark inĀ the forest, wet and real steamy too, so not a good combo for pictures.
On the second day bought out the Helius FR, and oh what a joy to pedal around it was after the ION ST the day before. Al a buddy, was demoing a Pivot 429 and he really enjoyed this bike….and is 99.9% sure that he will purchase one. All in all it was a great weekend with some great riding and great company. I’d really would love some of you guys to get down under to New Zealand and come sample some of our riding here in RotoVegas.
Rotorua is a fantastic spot to ride in NZ, one of many…..
