It has been fun, but the trusty GT Peace single speed is up for sale. For the first time in many many years I’m literally a two bike kind of guy at the moment. After picking up the Salsa Fargo some months ago to replace the SS commuter- the GT Peace has sat unloved in the garage. I’ve since taken it out for an occasional ride on dirt/ commute and it feels like a BMX compared to the 29er and does not work well as a commuter. What can I say? I like gears when I’m commuting it just makes sense.
Recently I’ve been out to ride trails on the trail bike that have been home to the single speed in the past and It’s a bit slower, a bit clumsier- but so what? I’ve loved the feeling of single speeding and how it just connects to the dirt- flowing and weaving, but it’s just to much for my back, legs and shoulders these days. If I was not training for marathons, commuting daily, and riding mountains each week then I’m sure the single speed would fit in fine….but it’s just a bit much when you combine it with so many other activities.
I’d love to keep it though- as I’m sure I’ll miss it and want to ride it on occasion, but I’m no bike hoarder…and have some other gear for the Marin Wolf on my radar for Summer so something has to go.
So I’m officially hanging up my single speed hat…..for now :)
If you are keen and can pickup in Christchurch- it is on Trademe or just email me
