2010 Gary Fisher Paragon 29er

I looked at loads of bikes before buying this one, in the end it came down to what I could get now and at a reasonable price. Trek and Fisher seem be very quick with getting their new bikes out to the public this year. I won’t get a chance to properly ride it until tomorrow so I’ll just note a few things that don’t concern the ride today.

Pros:

- I have the last 2010 19in Paragon in the country.
- The Fisher site says the Paragon is £1500, that price sounds like it should be right but the Paragon is actually selling for £1400 at the moment.
- Bontrager XDX tires are wider and higher volume than I would expect from a 2.1in.
- The colour scheme looks really nice.
- It will be interesting to see if the new Sram X.9 gears and Elixir 5 brakes can make any improvement on my last Sram/Avid experience.

Cons:

- Some of the Bontrager bolts are soft and the wrong size.
- The welds aren’t amazingly neat.
- The front wheel isn’t dead straight.
- No through axle fork.

Things I will change:

- Ergon grips.
- My own pedals, just in time because the CB Candy pedals were already disintegrating before the bike was lifted out of the box.
- Wider bars, 640mm is way too narrow for me.
- My own Charge Spoon saddle.

The pics show it exactly as it comes, including unnecessary reflectors, stickers and other paraphernalia.

From my blog.

What I like about the Fisher/ Trek 29ers is how much they just don’t look proportionally “big” like other 29er rollers. In fact, when I first was this model a few years back (maybe not the same name) it was the first time that I was tempted to dip my feet into the 29er world.

It is a bit busy for my liking though (graphics wise)- but it’s how it rides that counts isn’t it? I’m looking forward to a review soon.

I think it needs to be a small frame size or sitting right next to a 26er to notice the odd proportions much. The balloon-ish tires, deep rims and long wheelbase help the Paragon look a bit more normal than some.

There seems to be a few people that prefer the 09 graphics a little better but I’ve got a way of somehow liking the look of something better just because it’s newer, even when loads of people say it’s ugly.

The 2009 graphics do seem a lot more neutral heh. Some people say the Wolf Ridge is ugly especially in bright yellow – but I think it’s fantastic to look (stare :) at……so I understand what its like to have something that stands out a bit. I soon forgot about looks once I rode it anyway………

Have fun on it bro :) and enjoy what you have left of the fine summer over there!

yeah im a really interested in the ride of this. i have a few thoughts going around atm. my wife *cough needs a bike. i am really undecided what to get her. she is tall 5′10ish so a 29er isn’t out of the equation. although i am still considering a single speed for her *cough..
if you know what i mean

You should definitely look at 29ers, it’s a good idea to future proof yourself for when 29ers take over the world in a few years:) Out on the trails I’ve only seen myself and one other tall guy riding 29ers, the rest have all been quite a bit shorter so your wife should be fine on one. The Gary Fisher Rig is a good value SS 29er with the same frame and fork as the Paragon. Also look at the new Giant XTC 29ers…

There is a ride report on here and a more recent one on my blog if you’re interested.
