Daelim Bonita – our new family member!

It has been on the cards for a number of months now and today Amy and I headed into City Scooters here in Christchurch to lay down some cash on a new scooter. After some careful research we opted for a nice 50cc motor bike from Daelim- called the Bonita.

Having no mode of transport for 3 years since arriving in Christchurch has been just fine, but with the amount of training that I’m currently doing I just cannot fit it all in. One of the hardest parts of my ultra training last year was the lack of  variety on offer due to having to cycle everywhere. I’m really looking forward to being able to head to the Port Hills for a good hill run or walk…..without the hassles of having to come home- get changed- and bike there and back. Infact, I’m looking forward to being able to head there straight from work!

We could of course get a 125cc or more, but I’m not keen for Amy to be on such a bike when we start out. Anyway, for bombing around the flat streets of Christchurch to friends and social clubs etc. and picking up a few bits form the super market…..anything more than 50cc would be wasted. And at around 100KM per 2.4lt this thing will run on an oily rag too!

Neither of us have ever ridden a motorbike before so when we went down today for a test drive, we were pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was. Amy was a little nervous though, which was to be expected and both of us will need a little time to get used to being on a motorized vehicle again rather than a bike! Talking of which, we are booked in for a skills class just to iron a few concerns out….such as where the hell do we sit in traffic…and where do we park? :)

We pick it up this weekend. Woot! I’m sure that you will agree, she is predddy! What do you think!?
