Thanks for the comments :) I agree- a good work out can help take your mind of things for a while- and that's where injuries can really suck- as they get in the way of this. I can't deny- that having the "right" to mountain bike taken from me through an injury was a first for me- and I missed my two wheel friend dearly. It seems that the simple act of just getting out and riding a bike is often overlooked in this world now with the marketing man at the helm! There is nothing quite like the sun on ones face with a cool breeze- is there?

Best wishes for your Father- and I hope he gets well fast.

Sorry to hear about your sick family member. My father is currently ill, and I hope he will recover.

Sometimes nature is what you need to clear your mind and get things in perspective. I also think a real hard workout can give perspective, or provide some sort of escape.

Oh! Hi Now some updates :) Last nights ride up Rapaki was fantastic! This things just loves to climb and being able to get out of the seat is the key to riding the bigger wheels. Funnily enough I rode hardtails for years and years before the dually and you forget how precise they are and how much they love the technical rocky climbs. If you are a hobbit and visit Christchurch- feel free to take it for a spin :)

I really should figure out a unified screen name - this is Nick from Wellington, enderby49 on flickr.

A friend of mine rides a 29er cannondale with a lefty shock - he had fairly similar comments and was the guy who piqued my interest. Actually his 'comments' are more like raves now that i think of it. Might have to try and find one to ride before committing :)

I see what you are saying....Leg of lamb? Go on....5 quid. Bargain! You're avin' a larf ent' ya :D

I suppose the interest in 29ers started about 4 years ago for me when a guy I rode with back in Australia had one. He was a wee Asian guy and managed a fair amount of rocky arse trails that we struggled on with our 26ers. That crazy bastard also rode it single speed too- and was mental.

Once I started riding the rigid GT peace on some longer rides and then switched to the Fargo it was amazing how well the larger wheels just rolled...and rolled. I then found the 26er rigid just to small....and harder to move forward than the larger wheels. So I suppose I've been interested and intrigued for sometime- somewhat reserved being a midget and like you- worried about spending $$ for it to be a bit of a failure...but funnily enough for XC style trails or the rocky stuff its just great.

It did take me a few months to get used to the handling though- but thankfully it was on my daily commute. I honestly thought that the Fargo would give me the best of both worlds too- on and off road- but alas- the drop bars and long wheel base/ top tube was just to much to accommodate two styles of riding in my opinion.

As for the KHS - I'd love a REBA 29er fork on it- but I'm dreaming! One things for sure- and the purists will hate me for this- but having gears was also a choice that I made with common sense in mind. My body likes to have a choice when I get on a bike these days and thanks me for it the next day too :)

So where are you based? Would you have the trails to suit a 29er? I suppose these are the questions you need to ask. You could always ditch the commuter and build a 29er to do both......

Cheers for the comments :)

Hey you're a brit! ha ha, just jokes. With that accent i wasn't sure if this was a bike review or you were trying to sell me something off the back of a truck :) Nice review, what's the interest in 29ers for you? I've long thought of having a hobby bike that rode substantially different from my trail bike and my commute bike - decision, if it ever happens, will come down to a jump/dirt bike and a 29er. Cost is the main reason it may never happen but i've been curious about 29ers for a while. How does this one compare with the ride on the salsa?

This is the first time that I've not made it up the body bag...and to be fair...i could have most likely dug a bit deeper- but after 7 weeks off due to the ribs- i thought about it and decided to be sensible as my glutes felt like they were detaching from my hammys! lol Friday sounds like a plan- I can't on Thursday as I have a massage........nomnomnom.
