Body Surfing…

What a sweet little collection of images this Aussie website has! I’ve never really been keen on surfing or the ocean since being scared shitless by the movie Jaws…but people can change right? Body surfing is free, simple and by the looks of it…..a heap of fun! If we ever get above 35degs this summer, [...]
Rotorua. North Island trip. Ride two

It typical Craig and Paul fashion we got to our accommodation and had a quick feed and were off climbing up to the highest point in the park with 30 mins of our arrival! And boy oh boy it was sticky and humid out there! Unlike most climbs though- the reward was more than I [...]
The Paul James Design years 2003-2007

When I lived in Australia (2003-2007) I established a small home based graphic design business known as Paul James Design (my middle name is James) that chugged along for 4 successful years. I’m currently having a “end of year” clean up of my computers hard drives and I’ve just stumbled upon some “raw” studio images [...]
Steve Peat 2009 highlights…
“Finally in the record books, Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Steve Peat (SRAM/RockShox), makes history as he bags the big one winning the UCI Downhill World Championships in Canberra, Australia. Syndicate’s Greg Minnaar finishes a mere .05 behind Peat in the closest margin in World Championship history, and Mick Hannah takes the last medal just .69 behind [...]
The Canberra Champs through the eyes of Wild Wassa

There are a heap of videos and images floating around the intertoobs at the moment that attempt to capture the circus that is the Canberra Champs downunder. But nothing comes close to capturing the spirit, passion and buzz as well as Warrens images here on this thread on MTBR.
Warren has alot of cycling related images [...]
Stromlo Forest Park Canberra

The guys from BMU did a road trip to the Stromlo Forest mountain bike park in Canberra over the weekend and Jing had his GoPro camera on the go. When I visit Australia in October- I’m seriously tempted to hit Stromlo…….nomnomnom…..rocky goodness…….
Great pictures Jing :)
You can see more photos at Flickr or more about Stromlo [...]
My bikes. 2000 – 2009

Marin Wolf Ridge. Current.
It’s a six inch machine that rides and feels like I’m on a XC bike.
This is my current trail bike. It is a 2008 Marin Wolf Ridge with 6 inches of travel. I absolutely adore this bike as it’s light enough for 8hr epics, but it has enough boing and strength to [...]
Weight loss, nutrition & cycling

Fun, fat and flabby? (no idea what title to put in here :) )
It’s Winter time here in New Zealand and I’ve been thinking about the past of late and in particular my fitness and where I’m at. I’d say that currently I’m the fittest and healthiest that I’ve been since being a teenager- and [...]
Airbike SLH light review

Airbike SLH lightset
Being a regular rider of trails at night a good light system is always important. I have gone through 2 previous light systems which consisted of using very powerful torches but have decided to spend up a bit and invest in a system which includes a proper piggyback battery pack for more than [...]
Derek Morrison photography

On my tea break today I was flicking through a magazine and saw a picture that just stopped me in my tracks…a solo cyclist with wild horse escorts at this years Alpine Epic. After a quick Google I found Derek Morrison’s portfolio and thought that I’d share….I love it.
Yellomundee & Appin trail – Sydney Australia

Some great photos using the new wide lense GoPro camera, from Jing over at BMU. These shots are mainly from Yellomundee and Appin trails close to Sydney…. WOW! nice :) Jings Flickr collection is also worth a look.
Primate frames Australia

I found this sweet website from Primate custom built bicycle frames who are located in Sydney Australia, working out of the premises of Cycle Underground.
“All aspects of the frames are designed and fabricated in house and are built using Columbus dedicating and Reynolds tubing or aircraft grade 4130 dependent on design and application.”
Primate frames offer [...]
Justin Fox shows us how to bottom out a bike :)

My mate Mr. Fox back in Australia just sent me some images and a video clip of a drop today on his ride at Manly Dam… and I’m mighty impressed to say the least! A 5 foot drop to flat no less and rode it out…. good stuff Mr. Fox and that image of the [...]
2006 Commonwealth Games at Lysterfield Park, Australia

I’m sorting through the blog today and uploading images/ revising content to complement the new theme and noticed that I had not uploaded images from the 2006 Commonwealth Games mountain biking at Lysterfield Park, Australia. Better late than never I suppose!
What a day!
Otway Odyssey 2008 photos

I just discovered a few images online from this years mudfest at the Australian Otway Odyssey. Looking very summer brown and in lycra too!
Seems a million years ago now…….
Bike porn

It was a long time coming… a thread dedicated to Kiwis and Aussies flaunting their bike porn to the world. Have you ever seen so much titanium, carbon fibre, anodized goodness and a disregard for financial investment?….. *drool*
Is it getting hot in here?
Mountain biking at Lysterfield Park, Melbourne
Just looking through some ‘old’ video experiments as I prepare the video camera for a trip out this weekend and found this…..
A bit hard on the eyes, but some sweet singletrack eh? back at Lysterfield Park Australia.
I’m back from the 100km Otway Odyssey ride

Wow what a week! Aside from some family business in Australia the majority of my stay was taken up with the 100km Otway Odyssey ride. I’m not going to bore you with the exact details other than I completed it with no real stress at all- the hardest thing was riding 100km after just a [...]
Three years later
I have a confession to make…. and just want to get this off my chest….I used to be a smoker…. a 30+ day smoker for 14yrs. It eventually messed me up like all smokers- I could not breath or do anything real physical. I also always felt sick with a headache- with a cough developing- [...]
Lowen Otway Odyssey 2008
It’s not long now- the Lowen Otway Odyssey is nearly here! I’ll be flying into Melbourne for the 20th Febuary and heading down to the Otway coast with friends for the 23rd.
I’m super excited as this event is very special to me in that it is where at the first odyssey (50km) last year that [...]
MTBNZ launched & bags packed
Phew! It has been a full on year and things ‘are a changing’ at a rapid pace here in Australia- and after many months of planning, we are finally moving to Christchurch in New Zealand in the first week of December. With some farewell rides with friends (see piccy) we are now at last shipping [...]
Dandynong Ranges mountain biking

Last weekend was a great one because the motley crew reformed and got out on some mountain bikes at the Dandenong Ranges. We set out early in the pouring rain and 15degs to end some 5 hours later in the sun and 31+ degs. Good stuff fellas!
Mountain biking at Lysterfield Park, Melbourne
I got my hands on a new gadget last week… a tiny SD video camera that is designed specifically for outdoor sports. Called the Hero3 it’s not actually that bad…. and with a 2GB SD card, it takes upto an hour of reasonable quality footage! I won’t bore you with the details (the website has [...]
